MIZA was approached to renovate the top floor of an existing community building in Port Moody in order to provide thoughtfully planned daycare space for 12 toddlers and 25 3 to 5 year olds. The daycare will be Provincially licensed and run by the YMCA. The design goals include provision of high quality space that is nurturing, safe and fosters imagination while meeting the needs of both caregivers and parents. Funding is provided through Childcare BC’s New Spaces Fund.

Overcoming the constraints and challenges of an aging existing building, the project, successfully hides a multitude of complex mechanical requirements leaving a space that combines playful design elements with warm, nurturing materiality.
