W 13th Infill

Residential

Date: 2015

Location: Vancouver

Description:

In concert with the heritage restoration of the main house, the proposed infill house will add density to the lot.  In order to provide adequate parking for all the units, the main living areas are set on the second storey atop a plinth planted with grasses and bamboo in order to soften and screen the dwelling from the view of neighbours and to offer a green edge to the rear lane.

The seemingly primitive section of the infill house is sliced at an angle in response to the presence of a hydro transformer but also creates oblique views  out of and into the unit in order to maintain privacy and garner some outdoor living space for the infill unit.
