Perched on the hillside, opopod peers across the Vale de Moses. The pod’s stacked arrangement—washroom and storage below, living/sleeping quarters above—results in a compact footprint, set lightly into the landscape on just a few helical piles, permitting the natural drainage of the landscape to continue unimpeded beneath the pod. The form capitalizes on the southern exposure with solar panels intended for power and hot water heating, and provides a generous balcony, shaded from intense sunlight during the summer while admitting low sun during the winter months. The pod is finished in natural and locally available materials such as wood and cork to create a modern take on traditional building: a modestly luxurious home away from home.
