Langley Riding Ring

Recreational

Date: 2015-2016

Location: Langley, BC

Description:

On an idyllic farm in Langley, the riding ring stands in a clearing between groups of foliage. Large areas of glazing on all sides reveal the surrounding landscape, while a blonde plywood interior warms up the otherwise cool steel structure. The arena provides plenty of room for riding, while the adjacent lean-to’s offer storage space and viewing platforms for casual spectators.

MIZA collaborated with designers from Chris Doray Studio to bring architectural development to this otherwise rote prefabricated steel building. We worked closely with the steel supplier to coordinate the architectural interiors, exterior cladding, overhead door openings, and mechanical and electrical systems. The interior ceiling, walls, and perimeter kickboard are lined with clear finish Baltic birch plywood, which simultaneously lightens and warms the riding area.
